Seating object. 1993. One-off.
Designed for an exhibition at Yuill Crowley gallery, Sydney. Australia, as part of a research into the relation between the two- and threedimensional, and concave and convex forms. The deceptively heavy and extremely lightweight chair consists of a welded and polished aluminium sheet of only 3 mm thick, and is totally empty at the inside. Its skin is also its structure, and gets is strength from the interplay of curves, while the illusion of a heavy volume is stresses by the conic piercing. The sheet has been treated by a gold and translucent powder coating, with a crackled effect. The final result also demonstrates Venletā??s already early concern to go far beyond the pure functional, in giving his furniture a sculptural quality.
